The exhibition Tout le poids d’une île. Collectionner l’art cubain (The weight of an Island. A collection of cuban art) gathers 250 works that are part of the collection of cuban art of François Vallée. The exhibition takes place in three institutions: the centres for contemporary art 40mcube (Rennes), Passerelle (Brest), and the Museum of fine arts of Rennes.

Initiated 30 years ago, François Vallée’s collection is rich of about 400 works of cuban artists (or artists of cuban origin) living in Cuba or in exile. Tout le poids d’une île. Collectionner l’art cubain (The Weight of an Island. A collection of cuban art) presents a selection of these works. At the Museum of fine arts in Rennes, the exhibition highlights the main topics related to cuban art, in an attempt to draw a portrait of it, pointing out its links with international art.

At the centre for contemporary art 40mcube in Rennes, a monographic exhibition of the artist Segundo Planes gathers a series of his works from the 1980s.

The centre for contemporary art Passerelle in Brest presents a solo exhibition of the artist Rafael Domenech, produced on this occasion, as well as a selection of the abstract works from the François Vallée collection.

Based on the poet Virgilio Piñera, the title of the exhibition refers to a way of understanding cubanity, the complexity of living on an island, its history and its idiosyncrasy. The exhibition proposes a journey and an immersion in a universe of unsuspected diversity and fertility.
